Hmmm, so this is how it started, one of my students prepared and sent me a very informative, colorful and diagram-ful ppt. PPT was sent via mail and I went through it for the contents, flow, corrections if any and to check the completeness of the details, thats it. As a normal practice followed by me and my students, there were additional / extra informative slides too. Never thought about the size of that PPT till date. After checking that PPT I was supposed to forward it to many authorities via mail but with the posed restriction of size of PPT. So the journey of thinking, searching, acting varied options started.
Basic step was to first remove the extra slides which were not required for those authorities. I did that and with lots of expectations checked the overall size of the PPT, and it was hardly 1-2% less than the original one. Ohhh.
Then first stop was Google Baba, asked him, he guided me with one URL, I went ahead with basic option as supreme option was paid. So that URL did the job but hardly reduced the size. Alright. My hunt was ON and then went ahead with another URL where it reduced the size to almost 35% or so, but still it was not very useful. I was actually looking for concrete full compression as per the need. Experienced with yet another URL, but it distorted the looks of the PPT completely with 40% reduction of size. Oh man, it was like a big deal really.
So then talked to myself, rather thought to myself that enough of searching outside, lets take a moment and calmly think of all possibilities within. Boom, got the solution, experimented with converting the said PPT into PDF and it worked wonders, without any distortion at all and reduction to bare minimum size beyond expectation and well within limits. Hurrehhhheee...
Wonderful tiny experience, good learning, simple yet important...
I was aware of the power of PDF files, but somehow wondered all over outside.
This tiny experience taught me that few calm moments, connecting with self directs everyone correctly, then why depend on others always. First look within, have patience and then only step out. Lossless compression is easily feasible. What say friends?
