Background verification

Someone called to inquire about one of my students who had gone through the rigorous interview rounds. As always, those rounds included coding, GD, PI (technical and non-technical), HR, etc. Even after all these rounds and after getting the selection letter in the last week of October 22, the background check is happening now. Apart from "How long have I known that person and what is our relationship?" the caller asked me a few more strange questions: "If any problem statement is given, will he be able to solve it using coding?" and "Is he having a positive attitude?"

I was surprised to hear these two questions. What criteria were used to conduct the rounds of interviews back then? I am surprised to know that the answers to these questions were not found in the interview rounds. Should these questions be asked as part of the background check? I am surprised and taken aback.

Isn't it better to provide the caller with proper training and a set of questions to ask based on the answers to previous questions? The caller sounded like he was merely doing his duty, not even performing his duties, by asking these questions. Is that it, so called background verification? Super-surprised indeed. #hr #interview #coding #training #backgroundverification
