2460: Research Festival

Festival means fun, gatherings, food, meeting old and new people, laughter, discussions, getting dressed up, invitations, gifts, travelling, memories and the list is literally endless. Yesterday, research felt exactly like that to me.

For someone like me, who rarely steps out these days, it turned out to be a very, very long drive. And honestly, I enjoyed every bit of that never-before-travelled road. The gifting started right from the invitation itself.

An opportunity to interact with young innovators, fresh minds, different perspectives, storytelling, visualization and Deep Learning implementations, all together under one roof. What more could one ask for?

The occasion was Project Evaluation at MIT Academy of Engineering and it was truly wonderful to meet this new breed of deep learners.

Somewhere, I was carrying along my own world too: my university experiences, research orientation, PhD ecosystem, workshops, writing journeys and years of observations. And therefore, of course, I arrived gracefully in a saree while the youngsters around me were confidently dressed in their professional attire. The contrast itself brought such beautiful energy to the environment.

What touched me most was the sincerity of the students. Every project worked. Every implementation was demonstrated properly. Teams were genuinely involved. Nothing felt repetitive. Each project carried its own individuality and thought process.

Special appreciation to the Dean Research for being personally involved throughout and creating such an encouraging ecosystem for the students.

And then came the festival part beyond academics. We ate together. Laughed together. Shared memories. Met old colleagues. Explored a beautiful new campus with modern infrastructure and vibrant energy. Even the chauffeur-driven ride added its own charm to the experience.

But perhaps the cherry on the cake for me was something else entirely. I got to converse in Marathi with almost everyone around. That warmth felt priceless. Yesterday was not merely a project evaluation visit for me. It truly felt like a Research Festival.
