•As always there was a
sudden question asked by my daughter yesterday and here is brief about our
discussion. "Mom what if a student is not interested in studies at all,
then what you will advise him / her, which course to opt for and what to do?".
It was a good challenging question for me, being teacher, mentor, counselor
and mom. So initially I gave her answer only from the perspective of
Engineering only, as I can speak louder about it.
•I said,
"Engineering is different now, it includes many facets, in addition to
technical courses students learn many things and the perspective is holistic
development. It came all the way from governing body about inclusion of foreign
languages, project based learning, service learning, social activities,
interesting assignments, participation in varied competitions, internships,
research orientation, and what not. This coffee table concept of pick and
choose subjects, opt for specialization, out of the box thinking, tinker lab
(open all equipments to assemble again) along with subjects like ethics,
creative thinking, design thinking, communications etc. are a vital part of
syllabus so as to make the learning interesting and retain it throughout the
course.
•
•The major reason
behind this is now student should be industry ready, not only technically but
should be able to work together with people in teams, as a good human being....
•Finally, its
essential to generate interest in many more aspects not only in studies, apply
the concepts which are learned in real life irrespective of which field is
selected.
•Due to advent of
technology, now many avenues are open for students to share knowledge by
jotting down in the form of blogs, audio-visual form and what not. So explore.
The more the merrier.
•Everything is so
interesting around you, make most of it. "
•And the discussion
continued....
•She is ready with one
more question today, for which I wrote many pages=just my thoughts, will share
soon.
