One of my friends on WA asked the entire group a question yesterday. As now the summer vacations and "no school" days started parents of small kids are looking for ways to engage their kids. And here I go with few options useful for all the parents. And my dears these options are all offline options. So enjoy going through the list and I hope you will like them for sure.
- 1. New puzzle games available online to order, having varied number of pieces to join to form a specific shape or picture etc., they are also available in 2-D / 3-D form
- 2. Various board games entire family can play together and have fun
- 3. Patience, awesome game in two variants by physical cards not online and the beauty of which is we can play all alone
- 4. Puzzles mentioned in 1. Join puzzle pieces together from back white side, without referring to or looking at the picture, just by looking at shape and thinking etc. awesome fun
- 5. Cook without gas, like jam sandwich, Monaco biscuit+cheese+some other toppings, laddu made up of rotis, puffed rice chivda with raw oil, salt and pepper etc. its tasty and different, kids love it
- 6. Make a list of things in and around your house using a specific alphabet
- 7. Take “acknowledgement” for ex. As a word and ask kids to make various words using alphabets available in this long spread word, 2/ 3 / 4 / 5 letter words as per the age of child, for ex. Know, now, men, cow etc.
- 8. Read story books including Esapniti, Chandamama or others, not online, in physical form, available online to purchase or borrowing from library is another option
- 9. Ask kids to write few lines everyday in any language about their friends, teachers, picnic, bird, animal etc. again as per kids age
- 10. Use matchsticks to form various shapes and alphabets
- 11. Give your kid any shape and ask them which items / things inside or outside house is in that shape, for ex. Rectangle is the shape given to kids for today, TV, mobile, book, newspaper, door etc is in that shape. After few days, give some other shape. Ask them to either make a list of things matching that shape or draw / color etc
- 12. Watch old movies which were made for kids / having kids / kids centric or animal based etc in any language, it will be fun again, not cartoons for sure
- 13. Kids will enjoy activities like dusting, maintaining newspaper(s) neatly on central table, maintain their and other cupboards, arranging utensils say spoons, steel glasses etc. as per the age of kid again
- 14. Origami at small scale using old newspapers, making bags etc.
- 15. Reading articles from newspapers as per kid’s age again, reading together is the most memorable and enjoyable activity indeed, try it for sure
- 16. Drawing rangoli everyday for sure, which may contain alphabets, flower, leaf, etc. (My son used to draw his biology diagram as revision in the form of rangoli, so anything is fine)
- 17. Cut specific news articles, pictures, etc. and maintain them in one of the old copies from old news papers or books etc.
- 18. "Twist-A-Tale"
- 19. Kids should narrate a story to parents / grand parents
- 20. Draw or color pictures
- 21. Water plants if you have maintained few pots in your balcony
- 22. Ask them what they plan to do the next day, they will feel great
- 23. Play with balls of various sizes, maintain pace, its fun, look at various viral videos online to see how kids in Japan play using rhythm with colourful balls, enjoy and its a great group exercise for them
- 24. Jump rope, rope skipping
- 25. If possible and if you all like or may try few yogasanas for fun and exercise too
- 26. If not then just move around on tunes of music for zumba again for fun and exercise both
- 27. Introduce them variety of pulses from our great Indian Kitchen, they will love it, then if possible as per age ask them to note down / jot down / write about pulses etc.
- 28. Chant shlokas or aratis if you like, everyday in the evening hours
- 29. In presence of Mom Dad, grandparent involve kids in making lemonade / drink using raw mango, very useful during summer
- 30. In presence of Mom Dad, grandparent involve kids in painting a part of wall or back side of door
- 31. House of cards
- 32. Making castle using paper cups
- 33. Plant Cilantro or Fenugreek using seeds, and ask kids to take care, observe the growth of plants with tiny leaves, it will be fun exercise for many days
- 34. Involve kids in cleaning green leafy vegetables
- 35. Without fail narrate the importance of keeping little quantity of drinking water for Sparrows
- 36. Use plastic bangles if they are available to make various shapes etc
- 37. Introduce kids to various occupations around, starting with watchmen, maid, teacher, nurse, etc.
- 38. Involve
them every day twice at least during lunch and dinner for arranging table
before and then cleaning too, as per their age of course
