Diet vs food-restriction

In our ancient Ayurveda, the expert doctors suggests food-restrictions to the patients. These restrictions need to be followed strictly so that the medicine will affect the individual well, giving and retaining the required results with fitness, wellness etc.

Another reason for recommending or insisting food-restrictions are because those food items might be the cause of the original problem. I am not a doc but still based on my reading and experience I am penning it down.

When I was a child, even homeopaths used to follow or recommend lots of restrictions, for example, very popular was "no coffee" when on homeo medicines, strictly.

Even patients admitted in hospital usually asked to follow restrictions of food.

The synonyms word or the meaning of this food-restriction in Marathi is called as Pathya पथ्य.   That means individuals need to eat less of many things and its forced upon. The thoughtfully prepared food items for patients are kind of tasteless, as we are not habituated to eat things with less or no oil, boiled, less or no spices etc.

The other day I had the most hilarious experience as someone came to know about my nutritious diet regime / routine. The person was also aware that this routine is thoughtfully chosen for betterment of my lost leg's power and to gain more strength etc. And still used पथ्य multiples time as if I am on पथ्य. OMG. It was funny. The diet which I am following right now is full of lots of goodies. Both these terms are literally opposite to each other, पथ्य is not the apt Marathi word for Diet in all sense.

पथ्य starts when an individual who might be suffering with an aliment or is unfit, with basic or chronic health issues, which will help that individual to heal and become normal healthy person. Diet is the next step and the one which I am following is definitely the step ahead in transiting from healthy to fitness to wellness.

Thats the beauty of language, enjoyed it thoroughly as I got the chance to pin point the thin line of difference between the two alternatively used words. Wow.
