Since when I am able to recollect, dinners at my mom's place used to be Varan-Phal / Dal-Dhokli, Rice-Curry with raita, Kanya, Daliya etc.
During Deepavali days, at least one special little relax day few of my friends used to come home late evening, my mom used to make fresh Chakli and her special Tomato Chutney. We used to eat it together and on really large quantity so much that no dinner there after for sure. Why so much large quantity? simple, those days Chakli used to be made only during Diwali, not like today, everyday is a Chakli day, nope. Hence the interest in consuming large quantity with interest with most enthu mom in the world, then what else to ask for. Wow.
From the day 2 of Shree Ganapti sthapana, my dinner used to be wholesome Prasad after HIS immersion / visarjan of 1.5 / 5/ 7/ 10 days of Ganapati. Prasad = Special Vatali Dal, Cocount and what not. Wow. I used to consume it in so much of quantity, dont ask and that too from many houses. Yummy. The same set of friends who used to come to eat Chakali at my house, they had Shree Ganapati for the entire year. So they had a special Prasad which was made using fresh grated coconut, rock / raw sugar and all types of dryfruits. I used to eat rounds of it in my both hands full. Of course after so many rounds of huge quantity of Prasad, my mom never used to count me in for the dinner at home. No questions asked. Very simple and crystal clear.
As my dad especially was really foody, he always motivated me to make varied dishes at home, so weekends used to have more dhamal. Those were the days when doors used to be open and everyone was welcome at my place. Almost all variety of menu we used to relish with friends and neighbors. Hence again after eating specially prepared food dish then no question of normal / proper dinner, right?
Now today I finally realized, why I am a huge fan of "one dish meal" and not a proper spread including Sabji, roti, dal, chaval etc. specially for dinner. Hmmmm, the roots are in my childhood food consumption opportunities, which I thoroughly enjoyed. OMG.
