Platter of Semester-Colors

Long long ago, when I was a student of Engineering, I have enjoyed the yearly-pattern of studies. Now “on the other side of the bench”, being a facilitator in Engineering college myself, I am enjoying Semester-pattern of studies. The length of semester / duration is crisp (as compared to one year of studies) and nice with full of varied colors. Let me explain. The Semester begins with a fresh batch of students, new experiences, modern learning, spanking-new attendance registers to fill in registration details of new batch, and neoteric subject to teach (some times), with an reformed pedagogy….. Then comes the unit tests, lab work, project work, forming teams, assignments, etc. all hungama, don’t ask. The moment we are on the verge of half-way through the semester, emanates the paper setting, lab exams, continuous evaluations winding up, paper setting, paper showing, results, entry of marks, etc. and what not. OMG. Full of running around throughout the tiny semester. At the end of Semester again there will be a complete pin-drop silence everywhere, no colorful-natures, colorful-living-beings around neither in labs, nor in classrooms. We miss it all, every-semester-end, being facilitators. In all these teaching-learning life-cycle(s), in between there is a room for some commemorations (according to standard Indian Calendar), as well as professional-fests to enjoy, relish and rewind. This set repeats twice in every year. Wow.

In USA University, during my GTA days, these and many more activities used to happen thrice in year (as 1 year = 3 semesters). When I was a part of industry-training, the batch tenure for TCS Associates were 35 days only. So every 35-40 days we used to repeat teaching-learning activities (of course on different scale and speed).

I must accept that being a teacher, life is full of colors, shades, ever changing, enjoying every seasonality and opportunity showered on me with open arms.

Universities and or industry is keeping absolutely no room for monotony for sure.
