When my kids were younger, it used to be really exciting for me to get back from office. I don't know in which gear and at what speed I used to drive my car back home every day. The only thought used to be my kids and other related things. Even they used to wait for me to return home, with the same amount of excitement as mine. But one fine day when I reached home in the exact same way, my kids were not the same. They seemed different than usual. They were just in first standard then and we had put them in a new school. Maybe because of the long wait for admissions or any school related stuff that they seemed a bit strange. When asked, I got to know that they hadn't received their ID cards yet. When they finally received them, I was relieved thinking that they would now get back to normal. But when I reached home, to my surprise, both were fuming with anger instead of being happy. This behavior was completely unexpected for me. I never expected or even imagined that my kids, in such a young age would get so angry. They were waiting for me with their ID cards in their hands. They showed me their cards and started yelling their throats out. I was over whelmed to see their ID cards and hence, was not able to understand what went wrong. Then, they asked me, with tears in their eyes as to why only their dad's name was printed on the ID card and not mine. I was literally shocked as I didn't have any answer. How could 1st grade kids even possibly understand the reason why. I was overjoyed but, at the same time disappointed too as I couldn't answer their innocent questions.
Today when I was checking the NEET-2021 result date, I was taken aback after seeing Mother's name above the Father's name on the website as a part of NEET-form. A national level entrance exam in 2021, showing Mother's name above Father's name is truly commendable.
Even in my university, before every convocation, I have observed that my department coordinator made it a point to confirm whether every student, Indian or Foreign has his or her mother's name mentioned without any errors.
Even in banks too, while registering for online transactions or in case of taking help from telly callers, they ask for mother's name in addition to general information for confirmation.
Starting from my kids point of view, 13 years ago and even now, looking at the respect given to mother's name indirectly was truly credible. Superb! Felt really nice and respected.
Recently I came across a random video on YouTube. I took the efforts to watch it, which I don't do very often (laughs). Thereafter, I re watched it multiple times. Hats off to the makers of that video. In that video, there is a square family, two kids, one boy and a girl, and a couple. The wife is very smart, is a good driver etc., but a home maker. Her husband is the only earning member of the family. The husband had a habit of frequently taunting her about being unemployed and practically "having no work". So the kids decided to do something about it, once-and-for-all. Then, one fine day when the husband again taunts her about the same, the kids handover a very long list to him showing her daily time specific routine.
I mean, there are many such videos, advertisements and write ups regarding this issue. Slowly and steadily, things are changing for good. Hopefully, one day everybody will realize the value of women.
