These days EV is a boom and might be the need of an hour. 2-wheelers or 4-wheelers EV run so smoothly that human being blessed with great hearing abilities also will not know when it passes by. Its great and dangerous at the same time. Vehicle’s sound was the identity, just by listening to the sound we used to come to know that which vehicle is coming from behind or passing by from side etc. listening to various sounds on the road was one of the abilities every driver should have, but this phenomenon is no longer valid. “cheery on cake” is the advent of technologies related to wireless devices, music gadgets and ear ornaments (ear phones, head phones, air pods etc). those who use it consistently I don’t think they are musicians / part of giant music industry or surgeons who consistently operate in OT.
Me and my colleagues were conducting final viva with students last few days. One of my colleagues is a seasoned teacher, her voice is heavy, loud and audible to the entire class. While conducting viva exams there were we, the faculty members, and only two students in the class. There was no background, foreground noise or sound. Proper calm, quiet environment, no fan on high speed but still many students were not able to hear the simplest of the questions asked, queries raised by seasoned teachers. For every word they were requesting to repeat as they were not able to hear us. At the tender age of 18-19 if this is their state of ear how will they survive? Aren’t they realizing what’s going on? Going back to original state of the ear is impossible but they should stop further deterioration of the sensory organ.
