Learn, earn and return

For many years in a row, I have looked forward to this uniquely different day, whose turn comes only once a year. Yesterday was one such day. I was waiting to meet everyone, and they finally arrived; "they came and they conquered." They returned to their memory lanes and talked about infrastructure and their entire four-year lives, among other things. Wow, beautiful moments, awesome memories, and what not—I was truly speechless. All were professionally dressed and looked great, and the beginning of their success was visible not only on their faces but also in their drastically altered body language. All that is a bit difficult to express using my tiny vocabulary, seriously. Listening to our own students turn professionals, meeting them in person, seeing their glorified faces—that is enough to make any teacher happy. Yap, you got it; it was convocation day yesterday, and many of the passed-out students made it for this day all the way from Assam, Chennai, Bangalore, and many other places, most of them with their parents. All of the parents were overjoyed to be able to hold that massive degree certificate, mementos, marksheets, and so on firmly and proudly in their hands. The HoD of our department used the phrase "learn, earn, return" while welcoming all respected parents and students, as the phase of typical learning is over, earning has already started, and next is to give it back to society, parents, and the institute in the form of consistent connections, exchange of ideas, imparting technology to juniors, etc. After we felicitated all the toppers, I was literally in tears. Being a parent myself, I am looking forward to enjoying this very moment after around 2.5 years more with my kiddos. During my graduate and postgraduate studies too, we used to go to the university’s office to get the degree, or the degree-certificate used to come home by post. Such grand events with parents and teachers were never organized. Hence, it is more prestigious for me to enjoy this with my kids as all the parents did it yesterday. Even the parents’ faces were glorified with joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction. The meaning of the word "convocation" starts with "the assembly of..."; it was indeed the assembly of emotions: success, professionalism, utmost satisfaction, pride, victory, etc., to name a few. I hope to be a part of many more such magnificent gatherings in the future.
