1986: The voice

I am narrating a lot about a show on TLC named “Say yes to the dress" these days, in many of my blogs. Today, while enjoying the yet another versions of this show, I suddenly felt the difference. I mean, I was aware of it, i knew it, but today I realised it truly. This show is alive in many countries where brides wear the white dress for the wedding and we watch almost all the versions just for fun. Of course the team is different in every country's show which includes: the owners of the shops, designers, consultants, and many others, including the alteration department and admin staff too. The designs are also truly different definitely per country. The dialect is different too. The only thing that is common is consultants ask first the bride what she is looking for, in which kind of dress, which type of material, and based on their chosen destination, how the dress should be. Of course, entourage plays an important role too, but the importance is definitely given to bride; it's her voice. When the manager observes that she needs help while selecting the dress, they pitch-in perfectly, awesomely, to come to a beautiful conclusion. That’s the way.

Absolutely no comparison, and also now the things are changing for the better in our country too. But for many generations together, I guess the bride here in India was asked about her choice while the entire family, extended family members, are on a shopping spree for her wedding, but with very little freedom. There are outliers, but very few.

The one who is paying for the dress or outfit should be given the required importance. But at the same time, all should remember that it's her day, the bride's day for sure; her choices matter; she needs to carry that outfit on that day with confidence.
