I recently came to know the
definition of a working professional lady, and it came to me as a sweet shock.
Let me narrate the details briefly here.
So, this is the tail of one girl
who got married really early. She was married in the joint family then, many
years ago. And fortunately or unfortunately, her mother-in-law lived a long
life till the young girl became mother-in-law herself. Being married so young,
she used to be given a tiny work load to carry out, rarely. The entire house
was run by her mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and elders in the family. So much
so that when she delivered her kids, they were also taken care of by family
members only, including their food, stories, health, and what not. The girl who
turned into a mother-in-law definitely took care of home, but after many years,
and that too with the help from her grown up kids, sons and daughters, and
retired husband too. She was a homemaker for her entire life, and her only work
was to cook for all. Outside chores were managed by others in the house. Her
day used to start at around 7am, cooking and somethings here and there till
noon, then TV, lunch, and nap time from 2-5pm daily, without fail. Again, a few
visits to the kitchen, followed by consistent TV, dinner, and again, good
night's sleep.
I am sure all are aware of the
daily routine of this generation's moms with multitasking, very demanding work
front, equally challenging home front, driving, and working at keeping fit,
being presentable, huge screen time, tight timelines, and the list is really
endless.
Now when we heard that the girl
mentioned in the first paragraph was called working professional, great
personality, etc., to name a few, by her husband, sons, and daughters, then
what will they call the tiny description of today’s moms narrated in the second
paragraph? What is the exact definition of a working professional? According to
my tiny vocabulary, master, mastero, expert, pro, specialist, virtuoso, etc.
are far less. Yeah, she was good at cooking and showing constantly how much she
worked, but that is not it, right? The new generation has the designation,
needs to prove consistently, lives in a competitive world, may handle politics
too on a small scale, takes good care of wealth earned (hard earned), proper
management of her time in hand, drive / commute in this crezy traffic, interactions
with many so-called men-led cultures, upgrades, updates herself, her health,
and always smile on face, involvement in kid activities, and what not.
I was again super surprised to
hear the definition multiple times.
