2098: A True Reason

In metropolitan cities like Pune, apartments and flats are selling at an astonishing rate for reasons we all recognize. These properties are in high demand, turning the once lush, green, and serene city into a sprawling concrete jungle over the past few years. The reasons behind this transformation are plentiful—Pune's status as an IT hub, its proximity to Mumbai, abundant opportunities across various sectors, its pleasant climate, and its reputation as India's cultural and educational hub, to name a few.

However, today I strongly felt the significance of yet another pivotal but understated reason. A few generations ago, societal norms and laws largely excluded women from property ownership. Amendments eventually rectified this imbalance, granting daughters their rightful share of family property.
This transition, however, evolved further in recent years. Women started having properties registered in their names, often for reasons such as income tax benefits. Another fascinating trend emerged—many women began asking for apartments as gifts for milestones like weddings, anniversaries, or significant birthdays, not just for status but as a secure investment or secondary source of income.

The shift is monumental. The idea of a "family home" being solely the husband’s property has become outdated. Women today value having their own place, a space they can call their own, providing security and independence should the need arise. This forward-thinking approach has significantly contributed to the rapid proliferation of housing schemes across the city.

Though this reason remains largely unspoken and in the background, it is undoubtedly shaping the market and society. A true paradigm shift—one that highlights empowerment, security, and foresight, (slightly away from family culture).
