2467: No Shame in Asking

Just completed watching yet another beautiful episode of Indian Idol.

One of the senior-most instrumentalists on the show was sharing his fond memories of Asha Bhosle.

He mentioned that during his childhood, Ashaji had lovingly put him to sleep multiple times. What a blessing to grow up around such musical vibrations.

Then he narrated a beautiful incident.

One day, Ashaji and her husband were travelling in a local train. In the same compartment sat this instrumentalist’s father, carrying his instrument along with him.

Ashaji quietly requested her husband to ask him where he performed music.

Her husband spoke to him and also introduced Ashaji by saying,
“She is a singer.”

Ashaji immediately smiled and added,
“I belong to the Mangeshkar family.”

What happened afterwards is history.

That same instrumentalist not only took her to his studio, but also introduced her to important people from the music industry.

The rest of the journey unfolded beautifully.

And while listening to this, one simple thought stayed with me deeply.

If the legendary Ashaji once asked for help, guidance and introduction, then why should I feel awkward after writing 1000 emails where maybe:

  • 100 get noticed,
  • 10 receive replies,
  • and perhaps 1 transforms into an actual workshop?

There is absolutely no comparison here, nor should there be.

But there is definitely a lesson.

There is no shame in asking.

Many journeys move forward only because someone gathered courage to knock on one more door.

Many people around us are probably doing the same quietly.

And perhaps persistence matters more than immediate outcomes.

So yes, let us continue requesting, reaching out, learning, trying and moving forward.

Strongly.
Gracefully.
Without hesitation.
