On the Sunday morning of 1st Feb 2015, as
the golden rays of the spring sun rises to mark the beginning of yet another
day, we did celebrate 5th Annual HIGHWAYS INFINITE WALKathon 2015 - crusade
against cancer.
Venue :- College of Engineering Pune, Opp. COEP Hostel. 1st Feb 2015 - 0730am.
Wonderful wonderful experience, difficult to express in words though.
Surrounded with (my best best choice always) The Army Band, lots of Armed
forces vehicles, cadets, ambulance, army discipline, patients, cancer survivors
(ranging from 95 years young to 5 years) and civilians like me too.
Effectually organized program by Dr.(Cap.) Mrs. Ritu Biyani. Inspirational
speeches, skits by Armed Forces Medical College young cadets, Red Cross
Society's presence, lots of balloons, motivational banners of all sizes, Pune
Police controlling traffic (as entire 5kms stretch one half of the road is
specially monitored for walkathon).
This description is nothing, already waiting to be part of next years
Walkathon, and to be with Dr. (Capt.) Ritu Biyani, 3 times Limca Record holder,
and winner of enormous awards.
While reading these words today in 2022 I am literally in tears for two reasons:
1. I am truly satisfied that I was able to take active part in these walkathons for many times in a row, for that I used to practice walking daily, starting with a km to 5 kms before the tentative date of the event. Walk from my house all the way till Pune University and back on daily basis plus then office and after coming back home and kids, wow, I was truly blessed that I did all these things, rather I was able to do it.
2. And today 5-10 minutes walk is also a great achievement for my legs. But I am sure that is also a great blessing to have and cherish.
